Moisand to Represent FPA at Mutual Fund Summit
Melbourne, Fla. - December 19, 2003 - Dan Moisand, principal and Certified Financial Planner with wealth management and retirement services firm, Spraker, Fitzgerald, Tamayo & Moisand, LLC has been chosen to represent the Financial Planning Association at the upcoming Mutual Fund Summit. The summit is scheduled for January 24, 2004 at the University of Mississippi School of Law.
Moisand was chosen from the FPA Board based on his experience with writing the Certified Financial Planner Board's Practice Standards and service to the FPA's Government Relations and Professional Issues Committees.
“The opportunity to represent the core values of the Financial Planning Association to discuss the historic situation of mutual funds is such an honor,” says Moisand. “This summit will reiterate the most important rule of investment advising, which is to protect the interest of the client.”
The summit aims to address issues facing mutual funds today, as they have become
Americans’ choice of investment. In response to recent allegations of
investment misconduct, the Security and Exchange Commission has announced a
series of rulemaking initiatives to protect shareholders from the fund industry’s
biggest scandal in history. The SEC is slamming the door on a mutual fund practice
that has allowed illegal fund arbitrage, late trading, market timing (short
term trading to exploit pricing inefficiencies), and other frauds to flourish.
For the first time in the industry’s history, shareholder advocates, regulators,
and industry representatives will join together in a two-hour public forum to
discuss the SEC’s comprehensive reforms of fund laws and map the future
of the fund industry in America.
The Mutual Fund Summit, sponsored by the Financial Planning Association, National
Association of Personal Financial Advisors, and the Zero Alpha Group, will feature
key policy makers and leading experts from industry, government and academia
from all over the country. Joining Moisand to represent financial advisors and
the financial planning profession are Board Member and Government relation liaison
for the Financial Planning Association, Jeff Buckner and Brent Brodeski of ZAG,
and Michael Joyce of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors.
Moisand has over 13 years experience in asset management and financial planning
and was recently named one of the 250 Best Financial Advisors in the country
by Worth magazine and among America’s Top Practitioners in the JK Lasser
tax book, New Rules for Estate and Tax Planning. Moisand was also featured in
the Movers & Shakers issue of Financial Planning magazine as one the most
influential professionals in financial planning.
