Planners claim own week

NEW YORK—Financial planners received a public relations boost last week when nine states and more than 20 cities declared Oct. 3 Financial Planning Week.
Local chapters of the Denver-based Financial Planning Association conducted public events and coordinated media appearances around the country to promote the profession and the value of financial planning.
"I'm thrilled by the more than 50 local events that our chapters have organized," said FPA president James A. Barnash, a Chicago-based managing director of Lincoln Financial Advisors Corp. of Fort Wayne, Ind.
In Orlando, Fla., Mayor Buddy Dyer made a public proclamation with members of the FPA's Central Florida chapter. In addition, FPA members fielded financial planning questions from the public during a live radio call-in program broadcast from the Orlando Sentinel newspaper's newsroom.
"We wanted to raise awareness of the profession and let the public know there are professionals who want to work with them," said Charles E. Fitzgerald III, chairman of the Central Florida FPA chapter in Orlando. He also is a principal in the Maitland, Fla., office of Spraker Fitzgerald Tamayo & Moisand LLC of Melbourne, Fla.
